The study program gives a thorough understanding of how to develop larger software systems for industry and public organizations. The student shall be able to critique, analyze and design distributed systems across networks. The study program qualifies for jobs as system developer, system architect, software engineer and programmer. It also qualifies for further Masters Degree studies in informatics.
General studycompetency. Good knowledge of english and mathematics is important. Starting 2005/06, admission will require 2MX/2MY/3MZ from Norwegian High School.

The first year includes mandatory foundation courses in programming, networks, storage and development methodology. Second and third year allows for specializations, and the third year includes seminars and projects according to interest.
The following table shows courses that are mandatory for the Bachelor in Informatics. To achieve a normal semesterload of 30 ECTS, the student must take elective courses according to interest and availability. The columns below only indicates mandatory courses, however, and do now always sum up to 30 ECTS. Students are informed well in advance, about which electives that are offered in a semester.
