Description
This programme intends to convey a wider understanding and knowledge about team sport as it is practised in the European context. This means 1) that the main aim of the programme is the open format of team sport more than the closed leagues, which are frequent in some other parts of the world, and 2) that the aim of study is neither sport or business administration, but in fact a combination, which makes the understanding of Team Sport Management complex. These sports include football (soccer), basketball, volleyball, handball etc., but could also include hockey sports and cycling. Since football is the domineering among these sports, also in the academic literature, it is unavoidable that football will be much addressed in the programme. However, care will be taken to present a broader view. The programme will introduce the students to legal, ethical, economical, organisational, historical and psychological topics related to team sports. Students will therefore develop a better understanding of the developments and discourses of team sports, to enable them to take part in decision making within sports. The programme will expose students both to practicians and scholars. Moreover, they will be challenged on up-to-date problems and conventional understandings or sport myths as they are conveyed by the actors of sport
Target Group
Students who work or plan to work in sport clubs, sport associations or other types of organisations (agencies, media, event organisers etc.)

Competence
The main aim of the programme is to train decision-makers or influential actors in team sports or organisations working with team sports. The best students should at the same time develop skills and capacities that will qualify them to apply for admission to PhD studies. As prospective councellors or decision-makers, the students should be able to face complex situations in organisations in an analytic and reflective manner. The study programme should enable them to find good solutions and to create cooperative environments. By equiping the students with diverse perspectives and knowledge through lectures, assignments, discussions and teamwork, the students should develop an understanding of the complexity, heterogeniety and uncertainty in sport, and the need to listen and be responsive to others. This should enable them to constructively take part in change projects. By working in a team sport context and completing their master’s thesis, students should develop their capacity as problem-solvers by defining problems and research questions, and by examining, analysing, concluding and defending their conclusions.
